The annual Mastercard Destination Cities Index ranking top cities in the world in terms of tourists’ overnight spending showed that Dubai came in the first place last year.
Although Bangkok had the largest number of tourists in 2016, nearly 19.41 million, spending in Dubai was higher with 28.50 billion, compared to 14.08 billion in Bangkok, which came in the fifth place after New York, London and Singapore.
Dubai’s excellent museums, Burj Khalifa, luxury hotels and shopping malls have made it one of the most attractive destinations in the world.
The UAE’s biggest city has Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest skyscraper, and Dubai Mall, the world’s biggest shopping mall in terms of total area.
Visitors’ spending in Dubai is predicted to increase by 10 percent this year, while may rise further in the coming years as Dubai hosts the 2020 Expo.
