Weekly initial jobless claims during last week reached 898,000, compared to the expectations of 810,000 and the previous reading of 840,000.
Continuing claims data for the week through October 3 decrease of 10.88 million from a previous of previous 11.183 million.
Another report from the U.S. showed that Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index for October has increased to 32.3 from a previous of 15, while the expectations indicated a reading of 14.4.
The dollar index, which measures the performance of the federal currency against a basket of six major currencies, continued to trade higher at 93.76, the highest level in a week.
