Monero, Bitcoin report fewest losses in August

The chart tracks the performance of the top 10 cryptocurrencies in August, excluding the stable Tether, where no single digital currency managed to finish higher.

While Stellar (XLM), Bitcoin Core (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) ended in green in July, none of the top 10 managed to lock a gain last month, yet some incurred fewer losses than the others.

The Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalization, slipped 9.12 percent over the period of August, yet the Monero (XMR) dropped just 4.52 percent.

The sharpest losses were recorded by Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash and Cardano (ADA), as they tumbled 34.77 percent, 28.25 percent and 24.86 percent respectively.

The rejection and delay of the Securities and Exchange Commission to proposals to list an exchange-traded fund tied to the cryptocurrency had pulled crypto prices lower.

Nano leaped a staggering 73.85 percent to become the top-performing big cryptocurrency in August, while NEO registered a 39.62 percent loss as it was the biggest loser among the top 25 cryptocurrencies.

It is worthwhile to mention that the total market capitalization fell from $285 billion on July 31 to $227 billion on August 31.
